At Racine Christian School, our philosophy of teaching physical education stems from our understanding of the biblical view of our bodies. Scripture teaches that God is the creator of our body, mind and soul. It teaches that life and health are given by God, and emphasizes that we are to treat our bodies as vessels of the Creator. This implies keeping our bodies in sound health and fitness, and the physical education curriculum at Racine Christian School seeks to do this. Our program emphasizes flexibility, strength building and endurance through regular stretching, weight bearing exercises, and running. The students are taught that good health leads to a happier quality of life, as well as energy and vitality for all other areas of their lives.
The Bible also emphasizes the joy of life in Christ, and joy and fun are promoted through regular use of sports and games in class. Much is also taught about our proper relationship to others by stressing sportsmanship, sharing, teamwork, and encouragement, even during competition. As a whole, we seek to teach the children that physically developing their bodies is part of their act of worship back to God.
